About the organisation

This organisation is a small team of 18, yet big on performance. They provide community based quality end of life hospice care in a close knit, caring community. Care is delivered in people’s homes and in aged residential care facilities across the diverse Tairawhiti region.

About the role

This vacancy has come about through internal progression. The incumbent has stepped up into a nurse liaison role providing a great opportunity for a Registered Nurse keen to remain hands on and clinically active in the community, yet also take that first step up and into a leadership role.

As a community nurse you’ll share a case load with the team providing quality care: assessments, care planning, patient education, identifying equipment needs and supporting patients and their whanau. The team leadership role is secondary, however does include triaging all new referrals, scheduling visits for nurses and doctors as well as providing clinical leadership and advice. Over time you’ll be supported to assist the GM with rosters, budgets, performance appraisals.

This position is Monday to Friday with an on call component (flexible during the week and one in three weekends).

Skills and attributes required
  • A passion for providing quality end of life care
  • Hospice, aged care, or specialist palliative care experience is preferred
  • Registered Nurse with a current NZ practicing certificate
  • Strong cultural competency
  • A proactive, flexible, team player with a calm, confident and even temperament
  • Current drivers licence
  • A commitment to living and working in Gisborne
