Youthline is seeking two dedicated and compassionate Face-to-Face Counsellors to join our team and help shape the future for youth in the Counties Manukau region, providing free counselling to 12-24-year-olds.

About Youthline

The Role
As a Face-to-Face Counsellor, you will work directly with young people aged 12-24 years, providing therapeutic counselling sessions. You will help them navigate personal challenges such as mental health, relationships, identity, and self-esteem. Your role will involve working primarily from our Papatoetoe centre, with occasional travel to schools and communities in South and East Auckland.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide counselling sessions for youth aged 12-24 years
  • Conduct assessments and create tailored support plans based on individual needs
  • Facilitate a safe and confidential environment for youth to explore their feelings and challenges
  • Work closely with other Youthline services and community agencies to ensure a holistic approach to care
  • Maintain up-to-date case notes, reporting, and documentation
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development
Working hours:
  • Monday to Friday, with flexible start and finish times
  • Two positions available: One full-time (40 hours per week), and one part-time (20 hours per week)
About You You are a qualified and experienced counsellor with a passion for youth mental health and well-being. You are empathetic, non-judgmental, and committed to supporting young people through their unique challenges.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • A relevant qualification in counselling, social work, or psychology (e.g., Bachelor’s or Master’s in Counselling)
  • Full registration with a recognized professional body (e.g., NZAC, SWRB)
  • Experience in counselling (experience with 12-24-year-olds is essential)
  • Strong understanding of youth mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and trauma
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in managing confidential client records and case notes
