About the Organisation

Due to internal and career progression opportunities we are keen to connect with Registered Mental Health Nurses looking to join a diverse emergency mental health service (EMHS) delivering high quality, person and whanāu focussed care. The EMHS service sits within a wider community mental health team and is located in one of New Zealand's most thriving regions - Hawke’s Bay - serving a population of around 160,000 people.

About the role

This role will be have you working rostered and rotating shifts as part of a responsive 24/7 assessment, diagnostic, planning and treatment service for people experiencing a mental health emergency. Partnering with service users and their whanāu, you’ll work collaboratively with Emergency Department, Acute Assessment Unit and Mental Health colleagues; the Police and GP’s.

Ultimately you will be ensuring seamless transition of your service users to at home treatment plans or other mental health services. As an emergency mental health practitioner you’ll support and advise across the organisation as required. Performing Duly Authorised Officer (DAO) responsibilities.If you’re not a DAO currently you will be supported to become one.

What you will bring to the role
  • Experience in mental health with a demonstrated high level of clinical expertise in comprehensive assessment is required.
  • You’ll be described as someone with a mature outlook, self-confidence, calm in a crisis, yet you'll retain a sense of urgency. With good judgement and decision-making skills you can think on your feet and can prioritise based on acuity.
  • You balance the speed of assessment with appropriate care and safe transition to at home treatment plans or other services. It is expected that you’ll be a great communicator, engage well with service users and whanāu and provide culturally and clinically appropriate care.
  • You’ll be innovative, high-energy and show clinical excellence.
  • You will be Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse, hold a current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a full drivers licence.
  • You’ll have at least Level 2 portfolio as assessed via an approved Nursing Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) and hold a current drivers licence. A Post Grad is advantageous.
