Some leadership roles are about fixing what is broken.
This isn’t one of them.
This is an opportunity to step into a well established, high performing theatre service where the team is engaged, the culture is positive and the department is humming.
The current Theatre Services Manager has been promoted internally into the General Manager role - creating a rare opportunity to inherit a strong service with continuity, support and genuine momentum.
You’ll lead 7 operating theatres, 6 direct reports and approximately 65 staff across a diverse range of surgical specialties. Orthopaedics is a significant strength, with further growth underway across gynaecology, ophthalmology and robotic surgery.
New contracts have been secured. New surgeons are joining. A robotic surgery programme is developing. The foundations are firmly in place, and the opportunity now is to build on them.
A manager first. A clinician second.
There is considerable clinical expertise within this team. They don’t need someone to be the strongest clinician in every room - they need an experienced manager who can bring people, performance and operations together.
You’ll provide direction to an established group of theatre leaders, maintain strong relationships with surgeons and anaesthetists and ensure the service continues to deliver exceptional patient care while meeting its operational and commercial objectives.
This is a broad leadership role encompassing:
- Theatre performance, utilisation and operational efficiency
- Leadership and development of the perioperative team
- Workforce planning, engagement and performance
- Budget management and resource allocation
- Quality, risk, infection prevention and health and safety
- Strong relationships with surgeons, anaesthetists and internal stakeholders
- Service development and delivery of future growth initiatives
Who will thrive here? You’ll be a credible perioperative leader who understands the unique demands of a busy theatre environment, but your real strength will be management. You’ll know how to empower capable clinical leaders, create clarity, make sound decisions and maintain high standards without needing to control every detail. You’ll be commercially aware, comfortable managing budgets and confident building trusted relationships with specialists and senior stakeholders.
You will also bring:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- At least five years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
- A minimum of three years’ operating theatre experience
- Previous people leadership and management experience
- Experience managing budgets and stakeholder relationships
- A sound understanding of New Zealand nursing legislation and theatre best practice
- A collaborative, organised and resilient leadership style
- Monday-to-Friday working hours
- A strong and supportive leadership team
- A genuinely positive and well-established team culture
- Two insurance policies
- Free onsite parking
- Birthday leave
- Long-service bonuses
- Christmas shutdown period
- Employee benefits, perks and discounts
- Professional development and conference leave
The team is strong. The service is growing. The next chapter is ready to be led.
