Registered Nurse

Registered Nurse – Clinical & Research Christchurch | Up to 28 hours per week | Flexible working arrangement From $58.55 per hour

About Our Client
Our client is a well-established and highly regarded urology practice located in Christchurch, with an additional presence in Queenstown. With a team of 40 employees including 9 specialist urology surgeons, they deliver both public and private services across Christchurch, South Canterbury, and the West Coast. Their services span specialist clinics, urodynamics testing, chemotherapy, robotic surgery, and a dedicated and ongoing clinical research programme. Their nursing team is experienced, cohesive, and deeply committed to delivering exceptional patient care — guided by the practice motto: "giving you the freedom to live your best life."

The Team
The nursing team is led by a full-time Charge Nurse and supported by two experienced Registered Nurse Team Leads — one overseeing the clinic and one leading the research programme. The wider nursing team includes a group of Clinical Nurse Specialists who bring a range of surgical and clinical expertise to the practice. It is a close-knit, collaborative team with a strong culture of professional development and support.

The Role
This is a newly available position arising from a retirement within the team, and it presents a genuinely exciting opportunity for a registered nurse looking to broaden their scope and step into a specialised and rewarding environment.
The role is split across two areas — clinical and research — and the balance between the two can be shaped depending on the successful candidate's background and strengths. You will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager and Research Team Lead.
On the clinical side, you will be working directly with patients and the wider urology team to deliver high-quality care across the patient journey. This includes running clinics alongside consultants, conducting nurse-led clinics, assisting with in-rooms procedures, managing medications, providing pre- and post-operative care and advice, post-operative follow-up calls, and supporting patients through continence management and urodynamics. You will have direct patient contact and will be supported to see patients independently as your confidence and knowledge grows.
On the research side, you will be involved in the coordination and delivery of ongoing clinical trials — both surgical and medication-based. A significant part of this role involves going out to the public hospital to run clinics and recruit patients into trials. You will be responsible for screening and consenting participants, collecting and managing data in line with ICH-GCP guidelines, monitoring participant safety and welfare, and collaborating with consultants, study sponsors, and ethics boards to ensure all trials are conducted safely and to protocol.
This is a role that demands excellent attention to detail. The work is refined, controlled, and methodical — particularly on the research side — and accuracy in documentation and data entry is essential.

What We're Looking For
We are open to candidates at varying stages of their career. The non-negotiables are:
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate nursing experience in New Zealand
  • Clinical background in theatre, a surgical ward, or as a practice nurse
Urology or research nursing experience is desirable but absolutely not essential. If you are coming without a urology or research background, our client will provide a comprehensive and structured training programme — typically around six months — delivered by a highly experienced team who are genuinely invested in your development.
Beyond clinical experience, we are looking for someone who brings excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive and enthusiastic approach, the ability to work autonomously and make sound clinical decisions, and a genuine commitment to making a difference for patients.

What's On Offer
  • From $58.55 per hour
  • Up to 28 hours per week with flexible working arrangements
  • 4 weeks annual leave
  • 3 additional paid company leave days between Christmas and New Year
  • Subsidised parking at just $6 per day
  • Funded attendance at an annual medical conference for professional development and continuing education
  • Six-month structured training programme for those new to urology

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity to join a specialist practice that is at the forefront of urology care in New Zealand. You will be working within a stable, supportive, and experienced team, with genuine variety in your day-to-day work, ongoing learning and development, and the flexibility of up to 28 hours per week. The role can be genuinely shaped around the right person.
