Our client provides specialist palliative care to people living with life-limiting illness across the Hutt Valley.
Their focus is on helping people live as well as possible - maintaining independence, function and quality of life while supporting patients and whānau through changing and complex health needs.
About the Job
Working across an 8 bed inpatient unit and in the community, you'll provide physiotherapy assessment, rehabilitation and support throughout the palliative care journey. You'll work closely with the Occupational Therapist and wider multidisciplinary team to:
- Assess mobility, function, fatigue, breathlessness and physical needs.
- Provide rehabilitation and mobility interventions based on individual goals.
- Recommend equipment and provide manual handling advice.
- Support patients to maintain independence and quality of life.
- Contribute to family meetings and complex care discussions.
- Provide education to whānau, carers, staff and other health professionals.
The role is 20 - 24 hours per week, preferably across three days. There is flexibility around how these are structured, although you'll need to attend at least two 8.30am MDT meetings each week.
About You
You don't need to be a palliative care specialist. We're looking for an experienced Physiotherapist with strong clinical foundations, sound judgement and the confidence to work with a good degree of autonomy.
Your background might be in community rehabilitation, older persons' health, neurology, respiratory, oncology, complex care or another area involving people with changing health needs. You'll bring:
- NZ registration and a current APC.
- Ideally 3+ years' physiotherapy experience within New Zealand.
- Strong generalist assessment and rehabilitation skills.
- Confidence working autonomously and collaboratively within an MDT.
- Excellent communication and cultural capability.
- The maturity and resilience to support people and whānau experiencing life-limiting illness.
