Location: Timaru – Private Hospital
Hours: 0.6 FTE up to Full-time (Monday to Friday)
Shifts: Between 7:00am – 8:00pm
Salary: $44 – $54.56 per hour (depending on experience)
We are seeking an experienced Orthopaedic Theatre Nurse to join a well-established private hospital in Timaru. This is a fantastic opportunity for a theatre nurse who enjoys working in orthopaedics and is looking to join a supportive, highly experienced surgical team in a modern private hospital environment.
This role focuses on 100% elective orthopaedic procedures , with a strong and consistent caseload including joint replacements (hips, knees, shoulders) and a high volume of ACL reconstructions . The team typically manages around 5 joint cases per day across two theatre lists .
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality perioperative nursing care across elective orthopaedic procedures
- Scrub and/or circulate for a range of surgeries including joints and ACLs
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal clinical outcomes throughout the surgical journey
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and the wider theatre team
- Maintain strong communication across the multidisciplinary team
- Team of approximately 25 staff across theatre services
- Highly experienced, senior team , with a collaborative approach where staff support across specialties
- Reporting to an experienced Theatre Manager (3–4 years in role), with additional support from two Clinical Leads
- Supported by an in-house Theatre Educator and strong professional development culture
- Registered Nurse with orthopaedic theatre experience
- Confident supporting elective orthopaedic procedures (joints, ACLs highly desirable)
- Strong communication skills – essential for success in this team

- Competitive hourly rate: $44 – $54.56 depending on experience
- Flexible FTE: 0.6 up to full-time
- Monday–Friday work – no weekend lists
- Additional allowances:
- $7.50 per hour when working as a Surgical Nurse Assistant
- $14 per shift allowance for shifts extending beyond 6:30pm
