Helpline Support Worker

Do you have a passion for supporting rangatahi and want to make a meaningful impact through direct crisis intervention and clinical support? This is your opportunity to work with Youthline’s Helpline Services Team in a structured, high-impact role.

About the Role
As a Helpline Support Worker, you’ll be on the frontline providing essential support to young people accessing Youthline’s Helpline through text, phone, email, and webchat. You’ll also be a key support to Helpline Volunteers, providing mentoring, clinical guidance, and helping to manage risk in real-time.
This is a permanent, full-time role on a 4x4 roster (four days on, four days off).
  • Day shifts (8am–6pm) are worked from Youthline’s Epsom office
  • After-hours shifts (6pm–8am) are worked remotely from home
You’ll need to be confident in risk assessment, decision-making, and coaching others - often autonomously.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver person-centred, strength-based support to Helpline clients
  • Provide clinical leadership and mentoring to Helpline Volunteers
  • Conduct and guide risk assessments and escalate as required
  • Maintain quality documentation and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Support a positive, inclusive, and safe team environment
What You’ll Bring:
  • Registration under the HPCA Act, NZAC, DAPAANZ, or as a registered Social Worker
  • Experience in a mental health, counselling, or crisis support role
  • Strong risk assessment and clinical decision-making skills
  • Empathy, emotional regulation, and the ability to lead under pressure
  • Experience working in telehealth is highly desirable
What’s on Offer:
  • The chance to make a direct impact on the wellbeing of rangatahi in Aotearoa
  • A strong clinical team culture with support and supervision
  • Hybrid working structure offering both in-office and remote shifts
  • Work for a mission-driven organisation deeply rooted in community
This is a vital, rewarding position for someone who thrives in high-trust environments and believes in the power of connection, whanaungatanga, and youth-led support.
