About the job
Reporting to the CFO, this is a hands on Finance Manager role leading the day to day finance function and a team covering financial accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management.
There is plenty of complexity to keep an experienced finance professional interested. This organisation operates across multiple entities and services, with varied funding and contractual arrangements and a high volume of transactions. You’ll oversee the month end cycle, financial reporting, cashflow, reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting, compliance and audit preparation, while ensuring the fundamentals are done accurately and on time.
Just as importantly, you’ll get out from behind the spreadsheet. You’ll build relationships with Service Delivery Managers, help them understand their financials, provide practical advice and translate the numbers into information that helps people make better decisions.
Having invested in its finance systems, this organisation is now well positioned to keep improving how technology, systems and processes are used. There is a real appetite for curiosity and continuous improvement - looking at what can be streamlined, automated or simply done better.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading, coaching and developing the finance team, creating clear expectations while encouraging greater confidence, curiosity and accountability.
- Taking ownership of core financial operations including AP, AR, cashflow, general ledger, reconciliations and month end.
- Preparing accurate and meaningful management reporting, variance analysis and financial insights across multiple entities.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, consolidated reporting, audit preparation, GST and other compliance requirements.
- Partnering with operational managers to understand budgets, cost drivers and financial performance.
- Strengthening systems, processes and internal controls while looking for opportunities to improve efficiency and make better use of technology.
You’ll be an experienced finance professional who enjoys being close to the numbers. This isn't a role where you delegate the detail and operate from above. You’ll need strong financial accounting capability, but also enjoy leading people, solving problems and understanding what is happening behind the numbers.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification, with CA/CPA or equivalent preferred.
- Strong financial accounting experience across month end, management reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, cashflow, audit and financial controls.
- Previous experience leading, coaching and developing finance staff.
- Experience within a multi-entity, contract funded, health, social services, public sector or similarly complex environment would be valuable.
- Strong systems capability, ideally within an ERP environment. Dynamics 365 Business Central experience would be a bonus, not a deal breaker.
- An analytical and inquisitive mindset - someone who spots when something doesn’t look right and is prepared to investigate why.
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to people who aren't accountants.
- A collaborative, practical leadership style and a genuine willingness to embrace and contribute to the kaupapa of the organisation.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys relationships. Effective finance partnering means getting away from your desk, talking with people, understanding their mahi and finding ways for finance to enable rather than create unnecessary barriers.
