Are you an experienced Theatre Nurse ready to step into a formal leadership position without leaving hands-on clinical practice behind?
This is an exciting relocation opportunity for a capable perioperative nurse to become the Clinical Nurse Leader of a small, specialist private day surgery service in Dunedin. A relocation package is included to help make your move south easier.
With one operating theatre and a close-knit perioperative team, this role is ideal for someone who may already be informally leading shifts, coordinating theatre activity, mentoring colleagues or acting as the senior nurse on duty and now ready to take that next step. The service delivers specialist care across Gastroenterology, Colorectal surgery, General surgery, Gynaecology, Bariatric surgery, Non-surgical gastroenterology
You’ll lead the theatre while continuing to work clinically, maintaining the patient contact and surgical involvement you enjoy.
About the Role
Working closely with the Practice Manager and wider leadership team, you’ll provide day-to-day clinical leadership and support the safe, efficient running of the day surgery service. You’ll be involved throughout the perioperative journey working across Theatre, PACU and recovery, CSSD and Admissions. You will:
- Provide visible clinical leadership to a small perioperative team
- Coordinate daily theatre activity, staffing and patient flow
- Support the safe allocation of staff and delivery of patient care
- Offer clinical guidance, coaching and escalation support
- Promote high clinical standards and a positive team culture
- Contribute to quality improvement and best-practice initiatives
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and the multidisciplinary team
- Remain actively involved in scrub nursing and perioperative care
About You
- Current New Zealand Registered Nurse registration and APC
- At least two years’ scrub or theatre nursing experience
- Strong perioperative knowledge and sound clinical judgement
- Confidence working autonomously within a small team
- A collaborative and patient-focused leadership style
- The ability to build trusted relationships across the surgical team
