About the Organisation
This leading social impact organisation exists to provide much needed support to children with cancer and their families. They believe that every child with cancer and their family deserves to be well, to maintain hope and continue to dream. They achieve this through providing nationwide programmes and support, service initiatives, community connections, research and education.

About the role
This part time role working 8 - 4.30pm, three days a week (must include a Monday) is based out of Wellington and helps families across the greater Wellington Region and the Wairarapa. You will be providing tailored practical, emotional and financial support to children and their families during and after child cancer treatment. This position will support families to utilise their strengths, build resilience, access treatment and resources as well as connect with other volunteers and agencies in their community. You'll be required to visit families in their homes as well as attend meetings in the community with families. You will be based in Wellington but need to be available to travel, sometimes overnight (fleet car provided) to support families. 
 

Experience, Skills and Attributes required
The Family Support Coordinator will need to be:
  • Warm, outgoing, passionate and positive
  • A great listener and respectful
  • Experienced working with families during difficult times
  • Confidential, discrete and professional in your approach
  • Able to work autonomously whilst also contributing to the wider team.
  • Well organised - ensuring timely reporting and accurate records
  • Empathetic, yet empowering
  • Excellent at building relationships with a wide variety of people - children, families, health professionals, agencies, volunteers
  • Legally entitled to work in New Zealand and hold a full drivers licence.
  • It will be advantageous if you have experience working as a nurse, counsellor, within a hospital setting, or have professional or personal experience of cancer and supporting unwell children.
