High profile organisation supporting children with cancer and their families. Use your interpersonal skills and experience to add value.

About the Organisation

This leading social impact organisation exists to provide much needed support to children with cancer and their families. They believe that every child with cancer and their family deserves to be well, to maintain hope and continue to dream. They achieve this through providing nationwide programmes and support, service initiatives, community connections, research and education.

About the role

Due to internal progression we now have a vacancy for a Family Support Coordinator to work three days per week (ideally Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). You will be providing tailored practical, emotional and financial support to children and their families during and after child cancer treatment. This position will support families to utilise their strengths, build resilience, access treatment and resources as well as connect with other volunteers and agencies in their community. You'll be required to visit families in their homes as well as attend meetings in the community with families. You will be based in Dunedin but need to be available to travel (fleet car provided) across Otago/Southland on occasion (sometimes overnight) to support families.

The current Family Support Coordinator has stepped up into a Team Leader position, hence this vacancy. This means you'll have local training, guidance and support from an incredibly talented and experienced Team Leader.

Experience, Skills and Attributes required

The Family Support Coordinator will need to be:
  • Warm, outgoing, passionate and positive
  • A great listener and respectful
  • Experienced working with families during difficult times
  • Confidential, discrete and professional in your approach
  • Able to work autonomously whilst also contributing to the wider team.
  • Well organised - ensuring timely reporting and accurate records
  • Empathetic, yet empowering
  • Excellent at building relationships with a wide variety of people - children, families, health professionals, agencies, volunteers
  • Legally entitled to work in New Zealand and hold a full drivers licence.
It will be advantageous if you have experience working as a nurse, counsellor, within a hospital setting, or have professional or personal experience of cancer and supporting unwell children.

What's in it for you?

It goes without saying that you will be a pretty special person to win this role. In return you will not only get the personal satisfaction of making a very real difference in the lives of children and families who require support, but you will receive an excellent induction and orientation, regular support and professional supervision.
